Effects of Visual Aids on the Academic Performance of Secondary School Students in Biology in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Abstract
The study examine the effects of visual aids on the academic performance of Secondary School students in Biology in Ikere local government area of Ekiti State. Three research questions were raised for the study, the study was delimited to Biology students in public secondary schools in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State, related literature were reviewed and quasi-experimental type, because there was no randomization of subjects into treatment and control groups. The population for the study was made of all the Biology students in senior secondary schools in Ikere local government of Ekiti State, The data collected were analyzed and well coded to fit into the questions raised for the study. Discussions of the findings were presented at the end of the analysis. It was concluded from the result of the analysis that students that were exposed to visual aids significantly outperformed their counterparts who were exposed to conventional method of teaching, the study equally concludes that significant difference existed in gender performance with respect to the strategy employed in the experimental group as female students outperformed their male counterpart when been exposed to visual aids. Recommendations were made visual aids teaching method should be incorporated into the teaching of Biology at the secondary school level since it stimulate students to effectively learn and retain the concepts presented to them also teachers should ensure they plan their lessons with equal learning chances for both male and female students for effective delivery in secondary schools in Ekiti State and teachers should make adequate use of teaching facilities for effective transfer of knowledge in teaching Biology.
