Abstract
ABSTRACT This study critically examines the Impact of Western Culture on Traditional Political Structures in Africa. The principal objective is to decisively investigate the Impact of Western Culture on Traditional Political Structures in Africa Problems and Prospects 2010-2023. In order to achieve 10 this aim, two research questions were formulated to guide the study. The study employed content analytical method (qualitative approach) in the analysis of data. The findings of this study Findings from the study revealed that western culture positively influenced African governance, legal systems, education, and infrastructure development. During the colonial era, Western powers introduced administrative structures, such as centralized bureaucracies, to Africa. These structures aimed to streamline governance, improve efficiency, and establish control over African territories. Also during that same colonial period western education systems were introduced to Africa by European powers. These systems included formal schooling, standardized curricula, and Western teaching methods. The aim was to provide Africans with knowledge, skills, and exposure to modern ideas from the Western world. Findings from the study also revealed the problems of western influence on African political structures as the erosion of traditional authority, the imposition of foreign values, the disruption of traditional decision-making processes, the creation of cultural conflicts, the undermining of traditional institutions, the promotion of individualism, and the lack of cultural sensitivity, the erosion of traditional authority is a significant problem resulting from Western cultural influence on political structures in Africa. Western powers have imposed their own values and beliefs on African societies, often without consideration for local cultural contexts or traditional values. This has led to a loss of cultural identity and the suppression of traditional political practices, as African societies have been forced to adopt Western-style democracies and political systems. The impact of Western culture on traditional political structures in Africa has been significant, with both positive and negative consequences. On the one hand, Western culture has brought modernization and democratization to Africa, leading to improved governance and human rights. However, it has also led to the erosion of traditional institutions and cultural practices, resulting in cultural conflicts and tension
