Abstract
ABSTRACT Anlibiolic sUSCCpiibility describes how susceptible or resistant bacteria, such as Î’“.$’CftCl’lCl1ÎH chili, are to the affects of antibiotics. The most effective antibiotic for trcating a bacterial infection is found through susceptibility testing.Antibiotic résistance refers to the ability of bacteria to withstand the effects of antibÎOtlCS, rendering them ineffcctive in killing or controlling bacterial infections. This phenomenon arises when bacteria evolve mechanisms to protect themselves from the actions of antibiotics, either by altering their genetic makeup or acquiring resistance gènes from other bacteria. Up to date information on prevalence and antibiotics susceptibility pattern of pathogenic bacteria is essential in therapeutic management of Urinary tract infections and Gastrointestinal tract infections . The prevalence of Escherichia. coli,Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans isolates from urine and stool samples of Students of Osun state polytechnic, Iree was investigated. This was an attempt to elucidate the antibiotic susceptibility and resistance profiles of thèse bacteria commonly implicated in urinary tact infection and related diseases. Urine and stool samples samples collected from students of Osun state Polytechnic, Osun Iree.Nigeria were cultured and bacterial isolates identifled using standard microbiological procedures. The antibacterial susceptibility and resistance of the isolated bacteria and fungi were investigated. This study establish that prevalence of S aureus among students was high. The susceptibility test profile obtained in the present study showed that a significant percentage of S aureus isolates were resistant to most of the commonly used antibiotics. This is similar to previous studies and may be mainly due to the antibiotics abuse. The £ colt isolated were resistant to majority of antibiotics used in this study.
