Small Scale Business and Rural Development (a Case Study of Some Selected Businesses in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State)

This project examined the role of small scale industries in the development of rural community using some selected small businesses in Estako West Local Government of Edo state. The general objective of the study was to find out if government policies hinder the optimum performance of small scale industries in rural community development. A population of 100 was used for the study and a sample size of 50 was realized using the simple random sampling techniques. In carrying out this research work relevant literature on small scale Industries was consulted. After careful analysis of the result of the information and data collected, important findings were found out to enable a conclusion to be drawn. Findings revealed that government policies hinders the optimum performance of small scale industries in rural community development. Information was gathered with the use of questionnaires and relevant information was collected from books relating to the topic. Having gathered the relevant data, the researcher employs table and their associated percentage, chi-square (X²) hypothesis was used to actually reflect in calculating the hypothesis. It study recommended that government should formulate its financial policies that would encourage the commercial and merchant bonus as well as insurance companies into forming venture capital companies to participate in the agro-allied and import substitute industrial sectors.
