Enwang - Uda Relations in the Lower Cross River Region, 1900 - 1970

Abstract
The study analyzed the historical interconnectedness and relations between the Enwang and Uda communities in Mbo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State of the Lower Cross River Region, significantly focusing on the period from 1900 – 1970. The study discovered the problems of land disputes between the two communities which has led to change and continuity in their intergroup relations overtime. The study made use of functional and causal approaches to discuss the relations between the two distinct social groups. It utilized both primary and secondary sources in process. The study finds out that there exists cultural similarities between the two distinct groups who are bounded by each other. The study concluded that the relations between Enwang and Uda through the application of Ekpe traditional institution and alternative dispute resolution mechanism as well as inter-marriages remained more harmonious than conflictual.
