Prevalence of Trichomonas Vaginalis Among Single and Married Women in Nekede Owerri-West Local Government Area.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Prevalence of trichomoniasis was conducted at Nekede Owerri-West, Imo- state within the period of January to May, 2022. Well-constructed questionnaire was distributed to participants that was randomly selected among singles and married women. Vaginal swab was also collected for wel preparation and staining to identity Trichomonas vaginalis. A total of 102 women aged between 15-41 years were examined and 14(13.7%) were infected with Trichomoniasis. Age related prevalence or infection showed that subjects aged 36-40years had the highest prevalence of infection (29%) while those aged 15-25 years has the least prevalence (10%). In relation to marital status, widows had the highest prevalence of infection (40%) while the single women had the least prevalence of infection (11%). In relation to occupation, house wives had the highest prevalence of infection (40%) while civil servants had the least prevalence of infection (6%), In relation to symptoms, those with genital sores was more than those with hot leelings. There is need for improvement on personal hygiene and environmental cleanness as this will help to reduce the transmission of the infection.
