Abstract
This study investigates the influence of cyberbullying on the psychological social wellbeing of students at Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI). Utilizing a survey methodology, data was collected from 118 respondents through a structured questionnaire designed to measure the prevalence and impact of cyberbullying on various aspects of students' mental health and social interactions. The findings reveal that cyberbullying is a significant issue among BOUESTI students, with high levels of reported incidents negatively affecting their mood, causing feelings of sadness, stress, and depression. Despite the emotional toll, the data indicates that cyberbullying does not drastically reduce students' participation in online activities. Additionally, the study highlights the social repercussions of cyberbullying, including fear of online engagement, shame, and trust issues among peers. The results underscore the urgent need for targeted interventions and comprehensive strategies to address and mitigate the effects of cyberbullying. Recommendations include the implementation of strict anti-cyberbullying policies, enhanced mental health support services, and educational campaigns to raise awareness about cyberbullying and its impacts. This study contributes to the broader understanding of cyberbullying's impact on psychological well-being and emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive and safe educational environment for all students. Further research is suggested to explore long-term effects and demographic-specific impacts of cyberbullying.
