Assessment of Residents' Satisfaction With Housing Conditions in Railway Quarters in Kafanchan Town Jema'a Local Government Area Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Poor housing conditions and inadequate infrastructure in Railway quarters compromises residents satisfaction and well-being necessitating and assessment to identify areas for improvement.This study has assessed the residents' satisfaction with housing conditions in Railway Quarters in Kafanchan Town Jema'a local government Area Kaduna State, Nigeria and has also determined their socioeconomic status, to identify factors influencing satisfaction, and to assess level of satisfaction with housing conditions ,stratified random sampling techniques was adopted to select the study population &155 questionnaires was administered to household heads, 136 were returned and used for analysis The data collected were presented and analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of frequency, percentage and result were presented in tables and chart the satisfaction level of the residents with the housing area was determined. Furthermore, a five point Likert scale was adopted using RSI to assess the level of satisfaction in the study area based on the findings, the socioeconomic status of the residents was determined. the study also identified the factors that influences residents satisfaction which includes income 61.8%, sanitation 25.7%, security & safety 13.9% quality of housing 49.3%,water & electricity supply 33.1%. Despite these factors, only 35.2% of residents were satisfied with the overall housing conditions 50.7% were satisfied with housing location, the residents were fairly satisfied with the physical facilities (RSI 2.9), satisfaction with housing space with great dissatisfaction with kitchen space (RSI2.7) the respondents showed great dissatisfaction with the conditions of toilets and bathroom (RSI 2.1).50.7% are satisfied with conditions of the road network. Satisfaction with the overall condition of the quarters (35.2%) The study suggests that government interventions, infrastructure improvements, community engagement, and regular maintenance are needed to address dissatisfaction and prevent deterioration of housing conditions.
