Influence of Social Media on the Academic Achievement of Chemistry Students in Secondary School in Ughelli North Lga

Abstract
This study sought to examine the influence of social media on the academic achievement of chemistry students in secondary school in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide the study and four (4) research hypotheses were formulated. Descriptive survey design was employed in this study to gather information. Four secondary schools were randomly selected and 123 respondents were used as sample. Furthermore, questionnaire was used as means of instrument to gather information. The collected data were analysed using Chi-square statistical tool at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that: students addiction to social media affect their achievement in chemistry, Use of social media significantly influence students' achievement in chemistry, there is no significant difference between male and female student usage of social media network and Age significant influence on the use of social media. It was recommended that since chemistry students addiction social media affect their performance negatively, chemistry students are encouraged to limit the use of social media platforms.
