Abstract
Abstract This study examines the concept of musical prosody in the poetry of Mahmud Umar Matazu, focusing on the rhythmic patterns, tonal features, and sound structures that define his poetic style. The research is confined to the available sources and references related to the subject. It is organized into an introduction, three chapters, and a conclusion. The first chapter presents the theoretical framework on the concept of prosody and its relevance to poetic rhythm. The second chapter analyzes selected poems by Mahmud Umar Matazu, highlighting the use of sound devices such as rhyme, repetition, and alliteration that contribute to the musicality of his verses. The third chapter discusses the major findings and draws conclusions based on the analysis. During the research, the study encountered several challenges, including limited sources on Matazu’s poetry, scarcity of works dealing with Hausa poetic prosody, difficulty in obtaining materials written in Hausa, long distances from major libraries, time constraints, and financial limitations. Overall, the study concludes that Mahmud Umar Matazu’s poetry demonstrates a distinctive blend of linguistic creativity and musical rhythm, which enriches both the aesthetic and emotional qualities of Hausa literature.
