Abstract
A pot experiment was conducted at the greenhouse of the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA), Bayero University Kano (11.9831°N, 8.4214°E), located in the Sudan Savanna ecological zone of Nigeria, with the aim of determining the effect of GA₃ acid concentration and NPK fertilizer on the growth and yield of okra. The treatments consisted of 3 concentrations of GA₃ (0, 50, and 100 ppm) and 4 levels of NPK fertilizer (0, 100, 200, and 300 kg/ha). These were randomized and laid out in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and replicated 3 times. Data were collected on plant height, number of leaves per plant, stem girth, chlorophyll content, number of fruits per plant, and fresh fruit weight per plant. The collected data were analysed using GenStat (16th edition), and the significant means were separated using DMRT. The result revealed that GA₃ concentration significantly influenced the growth characters, with 100 ppm being the best. Also, application of NPK fertilizer produced the highest growth and yield characters, with 200 kg/ha being the best, although it was similar to 100 kg/ha. Based on the findings of the research, farmers in the study area should apply GA₃ at the rate of 100 ppm and NPK fertilizer at the rate of 100 kg/ha for higher growth and yield of okra.
