Effects of Effective Planning and Decision Making in Nigerian Local Governments (a Case Study of Esan North East Local Government Council, Uromi, Edo State)

Abstract
ABSTRACT This research work focuses on effects of effective planning and decision making in Nigeria local government using Esan North East Local Government Council Uromi, as a Case Study. The systematic development of action and programmes in reaching agreed organizational objectives by the process of analysis, selecting among the opportunities which are foreseen was argued evaluating and and believed and inferred by scholar to be planning and decision making. To achieve this objective, primary and secondary data were used in this study. The primary source, which comprise the use of questionnaires and secondary sources which include internets, jourmals, magazines and text materials were used in the study. Population of the study comes from the entire members of the local government council, Uromi. 124 respondents were sample size used to analysis the data. The findings show that decision making in local government is a process that affects the people at the grass roots. It was concluded that planning has also becen observed to fail when meaningful objectives and aims lack management support and unavailability of funds. It was recommended among others, that planning and decision making should be highly decentralized, such that department heads will be responsible for certain decision.
