Abstract
ABSTRACT The study investigated the effectiveness of radio advertisements of family planning programmes (study of Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State). A total sample of one hundred and fifty (150) respondents was used for the study. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the respondents for the study. The selection considered both male and female respondents in the Local Government Area. The study employed a survey design of the descriptive type of research to explore the relationship among variables. The instrument used for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire on effectiveness of radio advertisements of family planning programmes. Four research questions was raised to guide the study and answered descriptively using mean and standard deviation. Four research hypotheses were also formulated for the study and tested using Chi-square. The study revealed that Christian theological teaching of procreation hinders the citizens of Ikere Local Government Area from comprehending the concept of family planning, and that Yoruba's cultural and religious values around marriage and childbearing contribute to their lack of interest in family planning advertisements. It was also revealed that there was no significant influence of lack of compelling message content in family planning advertisements on the cause of the indifference towards family planning among the population of Ikere Local Government Area, and that radio advertisements have a significant impact on the public's adoption of family planning. The study recommended that to increase the reach and effectiveness of family planning advertisements, radio programs should consider offering content in multiple local languages, ensuring clear and simple language to reach diverse groups in Ikere and beyond.
