Effect of Corporate Responsibility on the Profitability of Zenith Bank Plc Kaduna

ABSTRACT Corporate governance mechanism is of a fundamental significance in the business affairs of banks. It encompasses the effective administrative role of the management towards achieving a sound and growing financial performance in the banking industry considering the sensitive and risky nature of the bank’s business activities. This study seeks to examine the impact of corporate governance on the profitability of Zenith Bank plc. The total number of listed banks on the Nigerian Stock Exchange as at December 2022 were used as the population, while a sample of one bank is selected for a period of ten (10) years (i.e. 2012 – 2022). The data used were obtained through primary sources i.e. from the administered questionnaires of the selected bank and data were analyzed using Likert rating scale. Although the study shows corporate social responsibility does not influence organisational reputation in the Zenith Bank Plc. The study further shows that corporate social responsibility adoption influences organisational performance and profitability. It was however recommended that Employees should be properly trained and educated, in order to maximize benefits of corporate social responsibility to enhance rapid improvement of corporate reputation and business delivery system, organisations must put in place market parameters that will enable them to be informed about being socially responsible to make corporate social responsibility adoption successful and to make industrial products meet expected economic, social and environmental needs.
