Abstract
The normal blood glucose level is crucially maintained to keep blood glucose levels stable with regards to the management of overall health. The study was aimed at investigating the synergistic anti-diabetic effect of bi-herbal formulation of Vernonia amygdalina and irvingia gabonensis. This study utilizes a variety of methods, encompassing acute toxicity assessment, normoglycemic blood sugar level evaluation, and anti-diabetic studies conducted on rats. N-Hexane extracts of bi-herbal formulation of Vernonia amygdalina and irvinga gabonensis were administered at doses of 90 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg. The bi-herbal extracts formulation offered a synergistic effects of hypoglycemic and hyperglycemia. The results obtained showed decreases in blood glucose level, suggesting its potential in the management of hyperglycemia and diabetes mellitus. This result showed hypoglycemic and hepato-protective potentials. Thus, the bi-herbal mixtures are a good candidate for the production of effective anti-diabetic and hepato-protective agent.
