Assessment of the Hazards of Journalism Profession Among Journalists in the Federal Capital Territory

Abstract
ABSTRACT This research work titled “Assessment of the hazards of journalism profession amongst journalists in the Federal Capital Territory”. The research aimed to find out how to eradicate the hazards in journalism, to find out how these hazards have affected journalism practice in Nigeria and to know how journalists can avoid hazards in the journalism profession among others. Authoritarian Theory was used to guide the study. The researcher adopted qualitative survey method. The sample size was determined using Taro Yamane’s formula. Data were gathered through the use of questionnaire from the study area. Four hundred (400) copies of questionnaire were distributed and three hundred and eighty (380) were collected properly filled while tables were used in the presentation and analysis of data. This study concludes that hazards in journalism can be eradicated, the journalistic hazards have effect on the performance of journalists in FCT and that journalists can avoid the hazards in journalism profession.Itwas thereafter recommended that Nigeria Government should employ all necessary tools to eradicate all forms of hazards in journalism profession to ensure a trusted and reliable journalism practice in Nigeria.
