Assessment of Standard Security Operation and Safety Protocol of Prison Break, a Study of Onitsha Correctional Center

Abstract
This study examined the assessment of standard security operation and safety protocol of prison break, a study of Onitsha correctional center. The objectives of the study were: To determine the factors influencing prison break in Onitsha correctional centre of Anambra State. To examine the effect of prison break in Onitsha correctional centre of Anambra State. To determine the extent to which standard security operation and safety protocols affect in Onitsha correctional centre of Anambra State. To examine the possible ways to improve security operations and safety protocols to minimize prison break in Onitsha correctional centre of Anambra State. The theoretical framework adopted for this study is Broken Windows theory by Wilson James and George Kelling developed in 1982. The population of the study 163 staff, copies of questionnaires were duly completed and returned showing 90% response rate. The major instrument used in this research work was the questionnaire. Research hypothesis were tested using ANOVA method. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 23.0 will be used to analyze the data and present it using descriptive statistics like frequency distributions, percentages and averages. The findings show that Male inmates are more likely to engage in prison break than females in Onitsha correctional centre of Anambra State. The poor level of infrastructure in Onitsha correctional centre is more likely to lead inmates to commit prison break. On the basis of the findings the study recommends that Non-governmental agencies should pursue payment of appropriate compensation to inmates and corrections staff that lose their lives or suffer serious bodily injury during externally provoked attacks in accordance with section 32 of the Act.
