Abstract
ABSTRACT The research work titled Hiv/Aids Campaign Programme “Shuga” Aired On Dstv’s MTV Base Channel addresses the increasing spate of An Appraisal of HIV aids among the growing population around the world. Nigeria is no exception with about 3million infected persons and having the highest prevalence of rate of disease after South Africa. This has been accorded to infection from mother to child at birth. New infections are on the rise among the youths despite the various communication strategies that have been used to communicate HIV and AIDS messages. The study is anchored on Uses and Gratification theory, the theory of planned behaviour and social learning theory. A descriptive study design was also adopted for the study. Findings revealed that the Impact of Shuga Television Series on its youth audience was very high as people now became aware of preventive measures. Hence, the researcher recommends among others that the government and the film industry stakeholders should produce more educative films on other aspects in society such as environmental conservation, literacy and gender equality so as to be able to reach and influence the public as in the case of the Shuga TV series.
