Influence of Social Media on Students Performance in Learning Listening and Comprehension a Case Study North West University Kano

Abstract
ABSTRACT The rapid growth of social media has significantly influenced various aspects of students' academic performance, particularly in learning, listening, and comprehension. This study examines the impact of social media usage on students' academic abilities at Northwest University, Kano. The research explores on five key objectives. The questionnaire were used by the researchers to answer the issue under investigation and two hundred and fifteen (215) questionnaires were used in the collecting data.. Findings reveal that excessive use of social media negatively impacts students' listening and comprehension abilities by causing distractions and reducing attention span. However, educational content on social media platforms, when utilized effectively, enhances learning through interactive and engaging resources. The study also highlights the role of social media in facilitating peer discussions, information sharing, and exposure to diverse learning materials. Based on these findings, the research recommends the Students should be better educated on the use of blogs and its effect on their performance. They should be advised on curtailing the use and its intended purpose to avoid dwindling academic performance.
