Abstract
ABSTRACT Malaria and COVID-19 may have similar aspects and seem to have a strong potential for mutual influence.Generally, in a typical Nigerian setting, hospital visits for the treatment of malaria are usually cases of severe malaria where home remedies including over-the-counter drugs have failed. A descriptive epidemiological survey of malaria using hospitals and laboratory clinic records was carried out in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Yearly survey for the period of five years(2019-2023) for malaria revealed an overall prevalence of 47.1%. The yearly prevalence of 77.2%,58.6%,35.6%,42.8%and 45.3% were recorded for the years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively. While the yearly survey for the period of five years (2019-2023) for COVID-19 revealed an overall prevalence of 51.0%calculated over the years, which had the yearly prevalence of 39.8%,67.5%,51.3%and 16.7%for the years 2019,2020,2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively.
