Abstract
ABSTRACT This research work sought to assess the impact of the Edo State Waste Management Board (ESWMB) on public health in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. The study made use of a structured questionnaire to obtain data from respondents within the study area. Five specific objectives were raised to guide the study. The study found that waste collection services provided by the Edo State Waste Management Board are not timely, and that the waste disposal practices implemented are inadequate in handling the volume of waste generated in Ikpoba-Okha. It also found that although the waste transportation methods used by the Board are effective in reducing environmental impact, insufficient waste disposal facilities and poor public attitudes remain major challenges. The study concluded that effective and timely waste collection, proper waste disposal methods, and improved public awareness are essential for promoting public health and environmental sustainability. Therefore, it recommended that the Edo State Waste Management Board should be adequately funded, while government and private stakeholders should intensify public enlightenment campaigns to ensure proper waste management and a cleaner environment in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
