Abstract
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to determine the ameliorative effect of oral administration of graded doses of ethanolic extract of Solanum torvum (eggplant) on the prostrate following potassium bromate toxicity on an adult male wistar rat. Twenty-five (25) male Wistar rats weighing 100-134 gram were used. The animals were divided into five groups of five animals each. Group A received feed and water only, which served as positive control. Group B received 50mg/kg of Potassium bromate (KBrO3) only, which served as negative control. Group C received 500 mg/kg of ethanolic extract of Solanum torvum only. Group D received 50 mg/kg of KBrO3 for one week and treated with 500 mg/kg of ethanolic extract of Solanum torvum for two week. Group E received 50 mg/kg of KBrO3 for one week and treated with 200 mg/kg of ethanolic extract of Solanum torvum for two week. All the animals used for the experiment were sacrificed two weeks after the commencement of the experiment and the organ was harvested and stored for analysis.
