Abstract
ABSTRACT This study examines the access to and usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) among teachers in Senior Secondary Schools in Ovia North East. It explores the availability of ICT resources, the extent of their utilization in teaching and learning, and the challenges faced by teachers in integrating technology into their instructional practices. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data to provide a comprehensive analysis. The findings highlight the level of ICT adoption, the factors influencing its usage, and recommendations for improving digital literacy and resource accessibility among educators. Four (4) research questions were raised and were directly answered. The study was descriptive survey research design which established the characteristics of the variables of the study. The instrument that was employed for data collection in this study is the observation schedule and questionnaire. The researcher designs a questionnaire which was used to gather data on the assessment of ICT access and usage among teachers in Senior Secondary Schools in Ovia North East of Edo State. The data collected with the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts. Percentages mean and standard deviation was used to analyze the other research questions. The findings revealed, among other things, that technology enhances teachers' understanding of ICT concepts. It also showed that lessons become more engaging for students when online simulations and virtual labs are incorporated. Additionally, technology helps teachers overcome their fears or hesitations, boosting their confidence in teaching and applying ICT effectively. It was observed that teachers are more motivated to learn and adopt ICT when technology-based resources are readily available. Therefore, it is recommended that schools provide teachers with adequate training and educational facilities to enhance their skills in using technology and effectively navigating ICT tools.
