Abstract
The persistent challenges of unreliable grid electricity and the environmental impacts of diesel generator reliance in Nigeria’s academic institutions necessitate the exploration of sustainable energy solutions. This project, Design, Implementation, and Installation of Solar Power Energy for a Block of Offices: A Case Study of Computer Science Department, focuses on the development of a solar-powered system to provide reliable energy to five lecturers' offices within a university. The system integrates 12 high-efficiency monocrystalline solar panels, a 10kVA hybrid inverter with an MPPT charge controller, and tubular batteries, ensuring uninterrupted power for a minimum of five hours daily. The methodology emphasizes a structured, iterative approach to ensure adaptability and precision in meeting energy requirements. The system is seamlessly integrated with the existing grid, maintaining operational synergy while reducing dependency on non-renewable energy sources. Results demonstrate that the solar-powered system effectively addresses energy reliability issues, reduces operational costs, and minimizes environmental impact. This work highlights the feasibility and significance of renewable energy adoption in institutional settings, contributing to sustainable energy practices and serving as a model for similar initiatives. The project underscores the potential for renewable energy systems to provide cost-effective, scalable, and environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional energy sources. Recommendations for future enhancements, including system scalability, advanced battery solutions, and hybrid energy integration, are presented to guide long-term sustainability and impact.
