Abstract
The Students' Union Government (SUG) elections in Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology have traditionally been conducted manually, resulting in inefficiencies, disputes, and logistical challenges. The manual system is often characterized by long queues, lost ballots, and disputes over election results. This project aimed to design and implement a secure, efficient, and transparent online voting system for the SUG elections. The system was developed using a combination of technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. Security measures, such as encryption, secure authentication, and authorization, were implemented to protect the integrity of the voting process. The system was designed to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and accuracy of the election results. The online voting system was tested and evaluated, and the results showed that it is efficient, secure, and easy to use. The system was able to handle a large volume of voters, and the results were accurately recorded and displayed in real-time. The online voting system has the potential to improve the SUG electoral process, increase voter participation, and reduce disputes. This project demonstrates the feasibility and benefits of implementing online voting systems in university settings. The study contributes to the existing body of knowledge on online voting systems and provides insights into the design and implementation of secure and efficient online voting systems. The findings of this study can be used by university administrators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to inform decisions about the adoption of online voting systems in university settings.
