Media Ownership and News Reportage in a Public Medium

Abstract
This study examined “Media Ownership and News Reportage in a public medium”, a study of AKBC radio Uyo. The objectives of this study among others were to examined whether media ownership affect news reportage in AKBC radio Uyo and to find out the perception of media ownership in AKBC radio Uyo. A survey research design method was adopted using questionnaire as data collection instrument, census sampling techniques was used with a total population of 18 respondents. The data collection were analyze in tables using the sample percentage method. The findings showed that news reportage is highly influenced by media owners. it was recommended that government should have less interference in the running of the station and focus on subvention and overall performance of the stations as a tool of national developments, covering news that are people’s interest oriented instead of owners interest oriented.
