Abstract
Abstract Cadmium (Cd) is a heavy metal recognized for its toxic effects on the liver, potentially causing considerable liver damage and dysfunction, marked by changes in liver function biomarkers. This research examines the hepatoprotective benefits of resveratrol, a natural polyphenolic substance with antioxidant characteristics, in a model of cadmium poisoning utilizing albino rats. Blood samples were obtained to assess liver function indicators, such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and total bilirubin concentrations. Liver tissue was additionally analyzed for histopathological alterations. The findings shows that exposure to cadmium markedly increased the levels of ALT, AST, ALP, and total bilirubin, suggesting liver injury. On the other hand, resveratrol pretreatment notably alleviated these alterations, leading to a significant decrease in liver enzyme levels and improvements in histopathology. These results indicate that resveratrol has a protective role against cadmium-induced liver toxicity in albino rats, probably because of its antioxidant characteristics. This research highlights the possible therapeutic benefits of resveratrol in reducing liver damage caused by heavy metals and promotes additional exploration into its mechanisms of action and potential clinical uses. 7
