Abstract
Recommendations Based on the analysis and conclusion of Close Call, the following recommendations are proposed to enhance literary appreciation, academic engagement, and societal reflection through similar works: For Readers: Readers should approach Close Call not only as a source of entertainment but also as a tool for personal reflection and moral learning. The stories invite readers to empathize with characters’ experiences and apply the moral lessons—perseverance, self-acceptance, and compassion—in their daily lives. For Educators and Literary Scholars: Teachers and researchers in literature should incorporate Close Call into discussions of Modernist African narratives, psychological realism, and sociological literature. Its integration into literature and moral education curricula will help students understand how fiction mirrors real social and emotional challenges. For Writers and Storytellers: Emerging writers are encouraged to draw inspiration from Close Call’s balance of emotional authenticity and social commentary. Using accessible language and realistic themes, authors can continue producing works that promote empathy, cultural understanding, and moral growth. For Society and Cultural Institutions: Cultural organizations and reading clubs should promote indigenous literary works like Close Call that highlight Nigerian values, gender experiences, and social realities. Supporting such creative efforts can strengthen cultural identity and foster social consciousness. For Future Research: Further studies could analyze Close Call through additional theoretical perspectives—such as feminist criticism, postcolonial theory, or narrative ethics—to deepen understanding of its contribution to Nigerian and African literature. Comparative studies with similar short story collections could also expand insights into the evolution of moral and psychological themes in contemporary writing.
