Abstract
ABSTRACT Nanotechnology involves the manipulation of materials at the nanoscale to develop structures with enhanced properties. This study focuses on the preparation and characterization of a nano-composite of titanium dioxide and tungsten (TiO₂-W) as a nano-absorbent. The elemental composition of the synthesized nano-composite was analyzed using Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), which confirmed the presence of tungsten (W), sodium (Na), zinc (Zn), silicon (Si), aluminum (Al), sulfur (S), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), potassium (K), iron (Fe), chlorine (Cl), manganese (Mn), calcium (Ca), and titanium (Ti) in varying atomic and weight concentrations. The X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed the crystalline nature of the nano-composite, indicating the presence of brookite, smithsonite, sphalerite, zincite, and quartz phases. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the presence of functional groups associated with metal-oxide bonding, which are crucial for adsorption applications. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) images showed that the nanoparticles were polydisperse, with a size range of 1.3 nm – 5.32 nm, and predominantly spherical morphology. The study concludes that the synthesized TiO₂-W nano-composite exhibits promising properties as a nano-absorbent, with potential applications in wastewater treatment and environmental remediation.
