Abstract
ABSTRACT Occupational stress among healthcare workers may trigger levels of burnout and this affects their performances and productivity. Also, the personality of an individual may also lead to burnout among healthcare workers. However, engaging in organizational citizenship behavior may help limit how occupational stress leads to burnout. The present study investigated the moderating effect of organizational citizenship behavior in the relationship between occupational stress and burnout. A total of 180 healthcare workers were conveniently sampled from Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state. Pearson correlation and multiple regression were used to analyze study data. The findings showed that occupational stress negatively predicted burnout, personality negatively predicted burnout. The study also showed that organizational citizenship behavior moderated the relationship between occupational stress and burnout, however, organizational citizenship behavior did not moderate the relationship between personality and burnout. Study implications were highlighted, and suggestions for future research were stated.
