Impact of Material Inspection on Product Quality in Olam Crown Flour Mills Ltd, Kaduna

Abstract
Product quality plays a pivotal role in ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining competitiveness. Ensuring the quality of materials at the input stage significantly impacts the overall performance of the finished product, thus reducing costs associated with rework, scrap, and warranty claims. This research investigated the impact of material inspection on product quality in Olam Crown Flour Mills Ltd., Kaduna. However, the study aimed to determine the benefit of material inspection; importance of material inspection on product quality; the quality control and quality assurance techniques used; and the efficiency measurement on product quality in Olam Crown Flour Mills, Kaduna. Opinion of various authors and scholars on the subject matter were reviewed. The study adopted Joseph Juran’s Theory. Juran's Quality Trilogy is highly relevant to understanding the impact of material inspection on product quality at Olam Crown Flour Mills. By ensuring that materials are inspected thoroughly, the company aligns with Juran’s quality planning, control, and improvement processes, thus ensuring that high-quality products are delivered to customers consistently. Survey design was adopted for the study. A sample size of 127 was drawn from the population of 190 which comprised of management and staff of Olam Crown Flour Mills Ltd, Kaduna. The findings revealed that Negotiation strategy does not have significant role on cost of material requirement for production in Hybrid Feed Mill, Kaduna. It was concluded that the role of negotiation strategies in negotiation as a cost of material requirements in Hybrid Feed Mill, Kaduna is often used and planning is the most effective technique. The role of negotiation strategies in negotiation as a cost reduction technique in material requirement at Hybrid Feed Mill is often used; and the effect of coordination and management supplier in negotiation as a cost of material requirements in material procurement at Hybrid Feed Mill, Kaduna is often used and management supplier is the best in providing the optimal flow of high quality, value for money, materials services and other essential resources and it is found that Hybrid Feed Mill, Kaduna uses management supplier to create long term supplier relationships. Finally, the study recommends that there is need for organizations to implement the negotiation strategies in negotiation on cost of material requirement in material procurement as it is often used and planning is a very effective technique; that the management should sensitize the staff on the various procurement strategies and procurement goals of the organization as stated in the organizations tender board; that Negation should be a responsibility of the purchasing and supply management professional to ensure that they are properly trained and prepared for the experience; and that proper preparations should be made by professionals before going for negotiations. This is because going to negotiate while having little knowledge about the subject matter delays the negotiation process and the end result becomes a win lose.
