Abstract
ABSTRACT Newcastle disease is an important disease of poultry globally. Its economic impact is severe due to the high mortality rate which may reach 100 % in affected poultry farm. This study aimed at evaluating the upshots Xylopia aethiopica and Zingiber officinale extracts on the replication and pathogenic profile of NDV. Twenty (20) 1 day old broiler chicks were used in this study which was divided into 5 groups. Group 1, 2 and 3 were protected with the Xylopia aethiopica extract, Zingiber officinale extract, its mixture respectively, before being challenged with the virus whereas group 4 received only the virus and group 5 represented the control. The protective effects of the extracts were determined by monitoring the changes in body weight, organ weights, pathological features and lesions in broiler chicks.
