Effect of Extrinsic Rewards on Employee Productivity in Kano State Polytechnic

Abstract
ABSTRACT Reward can be described as an individual who received by performing particular task or job that play crucial role to enhanced employees performance as well productivity of the firm reward system can be split into two groups extrinsic and intrinsic motivations they are made by taking employees point of view extrinsic rewards like., remuneration, additional benefit, commission, status and advancement on the other side extrinsic reward i-e conscientiousness, working environment, opportunities to improved their career and meaningful work Hence, another study revealed that poor remuneration directly link to profit earn by organization. Therefore, this study aims to examine extrinsic reward and employee productivity in Kano state polytechnic. The target populations under this study are the staffs of Kano State Polytechnic which constitutes 590. Sample size of fifty six (226) respondents were selected from the population. The principal instruments used for the purpose of this study are questionnaire, which was designed to 5-point Likert scale. Multiple regression analysis was employed to test the hypothesized model of the study. The result of the regression analysis shows that extrinsic reward has insignificant effect on employee productivity in Kano state polytechnic. The study has concluded that, management should have deep sense of commitment towards the issue of rewarding employees, if productivity levels to be enhanced. Finally, future research can be conducted to cover all types of rewards and to determine their effect on productivity.
