Abstract
ABSTRACT This project focuses on the development of a web-based bus reservation system for Adamawa Sunshine Express, aimed at addressing the inefficiencies of the existing manual ticketing process. The traditional method of booking tickets has led to several challenges, including long queues, booking errors, and a lack of real-time seat availability information, which have collectively resulted in diminished customer satisfaction and operational inefficiencies. To overcome these challenges, a web-based solution was proposed and developed using the Waterfall development methodology. In the analysis and design phase, various modelling tools were utilized, including use case diagrams to capture user interactions, activity diagrams to represent the flow of activities, sequence diagrams to detail the interactions between system components, and Entity-Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) to model the system’s data structure. These tools facilitated a comprehensive understanding of the system’s requirements and guided the development process. The system was developed using a combination of HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap for the front-end interface, ensuring a responsive and user-friendly design. PHP was employed for server-side scripting to handle the business logic, while SQL was used to manage the database operations, ensuring secure and efficient data storage and retrieval. The system was implemented and rigorously tested module by module to ensure that each component functioned correctly and met the specified requirements. The testing phase confirmed that the system operates as intended, providing a reliable and efficient solution for bus ticket reservations at Adamawa Sunshine Express. This project demonstrates the effectiveness of combining robust software engineering methodologies with modern programming technologies to solve real-world problems in the transportation sector. The successful implementation of this system is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency and enhance customer satisfaction, setting a new standard for bus reservation systems in the region.
