Abstract
ABSTRACT Magani Sanyi, a traditional herbal mixture, has been used in folk medicine for various ailments. This study aimed to investigate the phytochemical constituents and antimicrobial activity of Magani Sanyi against Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, and E. coli. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins in the herbal mixture. However, the antimicrobial activity of Magani Sanyi against the selected microorganisms was found to be relatively low. The agar well diffusion method showed that the herbal mixture exhibited minimal inhibitory effects against Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, and E. coli, with zones of inhibition ranging from 6-12 mm. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal/fungicidal concentration (MBC/MFC) of Magani Sanyi were determined, and the results indicated that the herbal mixture required relatively high concentrations to inhibit the growth of the microorganisms. This study suggests that Magani Sanyi may not be an effective antimicrobial agent against Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, and E. coli. However, further studies are recommended to isolate and characterize the bioactive compounds present in the herbal mixture, which may have potential antimicrobial activity. Additionally, this study highlights the importance of scientific validation of traditional herbal remedies to ensure their safety and efficacy.
