Extraction and Characterization of Oil from Fenugreek Seeds for Cosmetics

Abstract
This study investigates the extraction and characterization of fenugreek seed oil for potential cosmetic applications. The oil was extracted using the Soxhlet method with n-hexane as solvent. The physicochemical analysis revealed an iodine value of 106 gI₂/100g, saponification value of 198.45 mgKOH/g, acid value of 0.64 mg KOH/g, and peroxide value of 6 meq/kg, and a pH of 6.59 and refractive index of 1.47. FTIR analysis identified key functional groups, suggesting a complex mixture of organic compounds. Results indicates that the oil has suitable properties for various applications in cosmetics. Further studies on extraction methods and fatty acid composition would enhance its suitability for cosmetic applications.
