Strike Action: a Tool for Achieving Organizational Goals (a Case of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (asup), Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri, Imo State)

ABSTRACT The study investigates the Strike Action as a Toolfor Achieving Organizational Goals using ASVP in Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri, Imo State as a case study. In practice however, it has been difficult to separate strike from other forms of expression ofindustrial dispute as employer lock out workers und workers themselves embark on strike action. In achieving this aim. the following specific objectives were laid out to assess the essence ofstrike action tita/ exists in an organization, evaluate the level ofassistance by the management ofevery organization to realize their lapses and wake-up to their responsibilities as to put things righi where things have gone wrong and highlight the various objectivesfunction ofthe organization as well as its problems. The research design used in this repor/ is descriptive design, utilizing questionnaire method to obtain information from the respondents for this project. Primary sources of data was employed secondary data sources i.e textbooks, journals, newspapers and the Internet were employed. Findings indicates that the strike action shouldbe lhe last resort in achieving the demandofa group. Finally, the study recommends that the management should try to averi the cause ofstrike by settling at the latent stage. Perpetual dialogue should be placed side by side where there is continuous strike.
