Abstract
Toothache, a prevalent dental issue, significantly impacts daily life and is commonly caused by bacterial infections, dental caries, pulpitis, or gum disease. Conventional treatments, including antibiotics and analgesics, pose challenges such as high costs and antibiotic resistance. This study investigates the antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties of a herbal mouthwash formulated with ginger (Zingiber officinale), aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis miller), turmeric (Curcuma longa), and clove (Syzygium aromaticum). The phytochemical, antimicrobial, and elemental composition of the plant extracts were analyzed, with results indicating potent synergistic effects against oral pathogens such as Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis. The formulated mouthwash exhibited significant antibacterial activity, with minimal inhibitory and bactericidal concentrations recorded for selected microorganisms. The presence SSS of bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins, contributed to its therapeutic efficacy. This study provides scientific validation for the traditional use of these botanicals in oral healthcare, offering a natural, cost-effective alternative to synthetic formulations. Further clinical evaluation is recommended to assess its safety and long-term efficacy.
