Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigates the groundwater quality of Offshore Field X in the Niger Delta. A total of 10 groundwater samples were collected and geo-referenced using a GPS device. The samples were analyzed for physicochemical parameters, major anions, cations, and heavy metal concentrations. Results indicate that while the pH values were slightly acidic and within acceptable limits for some samples, others fell below WHO and NIS standards for potable water. Electrical conductivity and total dissolved solids exceeded acceptable limits in multiple locations, suggesting contamination from dissolved ions. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) identified key sources of contamination, including salinity from dissolved salts, nutrient pollution from agricultural runoff, and anthropogenic inputs such as crude oil exploration. The Pearson correlation matrix revealed strong correlations between electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, and heavy metals, indicating significant geochemical interactions. Elevated iron, chloride, and turbidity levels were linked to industrial and domestic activities. This study highlights the critical need for environmental monitoring and mitigation strategies to safeguard groundwater resources in the region.
