Formulation and Evaluation of Herbal Tooth Powder Using Neem Leaves (azadirachta Indica) and Mint Leaves (mentha Piperita. L.)

Abstract
ABSTRACT Toothpowder is a dental product used to clean, preserve, and improve dental health. In addition to acting as an abrasive to aid in the removal of food particles and dental plaque from teeth and help to eradicate foul odour in the mouth. The aim and objective of the study is to carried out a study on formulation and evaluation of herbal tooth powder using Neem leaves (Azadirachta indica) and Mint leaves (Mentha piperita. L.). The study investigated pH, moisture content, foamability and particle size in the toothpowder formulated. The findings of the study showed that the herbal toothpowder produced has pH value of 9.87, moisture content was 8.10%, foamability was 2.5 ml/100g and particle size at 2µm was 13.09 and at 0.5 µm was 3.95. Hence the findings of the study established excellent moisture content, foamability, small particle size and it is alkalis product. The study concluded that the herbal toothpaste formulated has no particles or impurities that may have side effects on tooth and it safe to use. The study recommends herbal toothpaste to be used by individual rather than commercial toothpaste that may affect tooth.
