Abstract
ABSTARCT Copper is a major pollutant released as a by~product during several industrial operations especially during acid mining of metal ores. Their transfer via the food web to humans is a true risk; thus this study investigates the efficacy of Staphylococcci as a low-cost and eco-friendly adsorbent for the removal of Copper (II) from contaminated waste. Through a series of experiments, the adsorption capacities of Staphylococci for Copper Cu (II) was evaluated. The effect of factors such as pH, temperature, contact time, and initial metal concentration on the adsorption process was systematically examined. Results indicate that Staphylococci exhibits significant adsorption potential for heavy metals, with removal efficiencies reaching up to 86.93%. This research underscores the promising utilization of Staphylococci as a sustainable solution for mitigating heavy metal pollution in water systems. The biosorption of Cu(II) by Staphylococci is significantly influenced by pH, initial copper concentration, and contact time. Optimal removal occurs near neutral pH, with chemisorption being the dominant mechanism. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models provide insight into the adsorption behavior, while kinetic models highlight the process's efficiency and time dependency. These findings emphasize the potential of Staphylococci as an effective biosorbent for heavy metal remediation.
