Enhancing Biology Teaching and Academic Performance of Secondary School Students Through the Use of Local Resources in Soba Local Government Area, Kaduna State

ABSTRACT This study investigated Enhancing Biology teaching and academic performance through the use of Local resources among secondary schools students in soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Quasi-experimental design was also used in this research work. It involves pre-test, post test and control groups. The population of the study comprised SS2 Students studying Biology in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State. And the total number of one hundred and Ten (110) students made up the sample size. Number of research question, two research questions and two hypotheses were put across to guide the study. The instruments for data collection BAT. And statistics used analyzing mean, standard deviation for research question while t-test was used for analyzing hypotheses. Based on the findings, it revealed that there is a significant difference in the performance of Biology students taught using local resources and those taught without local resources in favour of local resources group. Also there is no significant difference in the area of performance of male and female Biology students taught Biology with local resources in secondary schools in soba local Government Area. Based on the findings, it was recommended that teachers should always adopt local resources in their teaching in other to improve the teaching and learning of Biology.
