Abstract
Acalypha wilkensiana leaf is one of the medicinal plants used in the treatment ofvarious diseases traditionally. This study was conducted to identify the bioactivecompound in Acalyphawilkensiana (Copper leaf) extract using Fourier transforminfrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. 200grams of the powdered leaf was soaked and extracted with 95%Ethanol for 72hours under room temperature with continuous stirring at intervalafter which it was filtered. The extract was concentrated by evaporating the ethanolusing water bath, the volume of ethyl acetate was prepared as the eluent; the crudeextract was subjected to colum chromatography to get the different eluates. Thefirst fraction of the elution (First eluate) was collected and analysedspectroscopically using GC-MS and FT-IR.
