Abstract
ABSTRACT Amid the rapid evolution of digital media, podcasts have emerged as influential platforms for political communication, offering alternative spaces for public discourse beyond traditional media. With political discourse increasingly shifting to digital audio, it is important to examine how such media structure content frame political issues. This research explores the nature and framing of political discussions in The Mic On Podcast Show, by Seun Okinbaloye on YouTube. Drawing on Framing Theory and utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative and qualitative content analysis to examine selected episodes. The research is guided by three main objectives: to analyze the political themes discussed in the podcast episodes, to explore how key political issues are framed, and to assess the frequency and patterns of political discourse across different episodes. A purposive sample of episodes was selected over a defined period (Jan-Dec 2023), ensuring relevance to Nigeria’s political landscape. Preliminary findings reveal that Mic On Podcast Show frequently engages with major political themes such as elections, governance, legislative matters, and public accountability. Preliminary findings reveal points towards topics related to politics changes depending on what’s happening in various parts of Nigeria. The study recommends that political podcasters ensure balanced framing and fair representation of political issues to promote accurate and responsible discourse. It also calls for continued scholarly exploration into how digital political content (podcasts), contributes to shaping political narratives and conversations in Nigeria.
