Strategies for Promoting the Inclusion of Female Building Technology Students in the Construction Industry

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study examines strategies to promote the inclusion of female students in Building Technology programs, with the aim of encouraging their participation and success in the construction industry. The objectives were to evaluate challenges facing female students, identify key motivational factors influencing their enrollment, and examine effective strategies for promoting their inclusion. Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected from female Building Technology students across tertiary institutions in Osun State. The study revealed that institutional reputation, personal interest in design and construction, and the potential for high earnings in the industry are key motivational factors influencing the choice of study of building technology. Also, the major challenges faced by females in building technology programme are physical demands of fieldwork, balancing academic and personal responsibilities, and financial constraints. The strategies for promoting inclusion of female students in construction industry are increasing awareness and outreach program, collaborating with firms for inclusive hiring, and promoting success stories of female professionals among other things. The study concludes that a multifaceted approach, including mentorship, financial assistance, industry collaboration, and awareness campaigns, is essential to support female participation and retention in Building Technology. It recommends stronger institutional support, targeted financial aid, inclusive internships, and role model promotion to foster a more diverse and innovative construction sector.
