Abstract
abstract This study examines the perceptions of rural residents in the Nsukka local government area of Enugu State, Nigeria, regarding radio messages about safe water practices. A survey method was used with 246 participants. The study reveals that while most are aware of safe practices and acknowledge radio's role in increasing knowledge, they do not seek further radio information. Radio is considered effective at promoting safe practices and motivating adoption, but it does not significantly change perceptions or behaviours. Although the participants understand water treatment methods, a gap exists between knowledge and actual behaviour change. Key hindrances include unclear messaging and inadequate communication about the health consequences of unsafe water practices. The study concludes that radio is a useful awareness tool, but is limited in changing behaviour. Recommendations include clearer messaging, emphasizing health consequences, and using interactive programs.
