Analysis of Domestic Solid Waste Management in Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Nigeria

ABSTRACT Urbanization and population growth are responsible for increasing rose of solid Waste generation and tus' proper management is a major problem across urban areas in Nigeria This was aimed at accessing the effects of solid Waste disposal in Sabon Gari local government area Koduna State The research stilized data acquired from 400 sampled Respondents. The data w analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as frequency count, percentages and charis The results reveal that households (39.30%) and commercial centers (30.3%) are the major contributors of solid in the area. Open dumping (32.0%) and land filling (23 25% were identified to be the major waste disposal methods adopted in Sabon Gari LGA It was also discovered from the study that the major effect of solid Waste disposal in the area were the prevalence and frequent occurrence of disease (70.16%) and a reduced quality of life (64.76%) Involvement of governmental agencies (56.205%) in private bodies (43.75%) in managing solid Waste across the study area were generally poor (25.26%). On the basis of the research it was recommended that households should practice waste reduction. Moreover, the residents should be educated on the benefits of recycling domestic waste. The government should be more active in regular collection of solid waste and clean up exereise as well as provide designated areas for disposing solid waste.
