Media Funding and Effective Journalism in Benue State (a Study of Radio Benue, Makurdi)

Abstract
ABSTRACT The study examined media funding and effective journalism in Benue State, a study of Radio Benue, Makurdi. The study employed quantitative design using survey research method. The total population of the study is 52 staffs (Radio Benue Profile, 2023). The study employed census sampling strategy to study the entire population due to the low number of population i.e the sampling size of the study is 52. The researcher employed the use of a questionnaire to collect necessary data for the study. Questionnaire was designed to collect data. The data from the questionnaire was structured on a -point Likert scale ranging from agrees (2) to disagree (1). The study noted insufficient funding from the government, misappropriation of funding by media management staffs, politicians embezzlement of funds released for media funding affect Radio Benue, Makurdi. However, commercial news, adverts, jingle, among others are the sources of media funding in Radio Benue, Makurdi. The study therefore concluded that the nature of media funding in Radio Benue has negatively impacted professionalism in journalism practice. Government can help the Radio Benue, Makurdi achieve her developmental roles in the society by making sure that the infrastructure facilities such as power supply, good roads, good communication networks, security of lives and properties, etc are in good conditions.
