Abstract
The study investigated the effects of use of Google classroom on senior secondary school students’ performance in Mathematics in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State. This study employed a quasi-experimental research method to explore the relationship between variables. A total of eighty (80) respondents were selected for the study which formed the sample of the study. The schools were selected by simple random sampling. Stratified simple random sampling was used in selecting the students in each school. The Mathematics Performance Test (MAT) was used to collect the required data. The same instrument was used to collect data for the pre-test and the posttest. The MAT was developed by the researcher. It was a 40 item instrument that tested the student’s knowledge, comprehension, application and academic skills on working out short answer questions that was set on Mathematics topics. Four research questions was raised for the study and answered descriptively. Four research hypotheses were formulated for the study and tested using paired sample t-test of independent sample and linear regression analysis. Based on the data analysis, findings revealed that there was significant difference between the academic performance of students taught Mathematics using Google classroom and those taught using conventional teaching method in favour of those taught with Google classroom. It was also revealed that there was significant difference between the mean academic performance scores of male and female Mathematics students taught using Google classroom in favour of female students. Also, it was revealed that there was significant interaction effect of Google classroom strategy and ability levels on students’ performance of Mathematics with respect to their gender. Lastly, it was revealed that there was significant difference in the retentive ability of students taught using Google classroom and those taught using conventional method in favour of the students in the experimental group. The study recommends that Google classroom teaching method should be incorporated into the teaching of Mathematics at the secondary school level since it stimulate students to effectively learn and retain the concepts presented to them.
