Abstract
Abstract This study examines the relationship between state economic policies and the growth of small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. It explores how government policies such as taxation, access to credit facilities, infrastructural development, and regulatory frameworks influence the performance and sustainability of SMEs. Using a mixed-method approach, the research gathered both primary and secondary data from entrepreneurs, government agencies, and policy documents. The findings reveal that while state governments have introduced various initiatives to promote SME growth, inconsistent policy implementation, poor infrastructural support, and limited access to financing remain major challenges. The study further establishes that favorable tax policies, stable power supply, and improved access to credit significantly enhance SME productivity and expansion. It concludes that sustainable SME growth in Nigeria depends largely on coherent and inclusive economic policies that prioritize entrepreneurship development and create an enabling business environment. The study recommends that government at all levels should strengthen institutional frameworks, ensure policy consistency, and provide targeted financial and infrastructural support to SMEs to foster economic diversification and employment generation
